It was a relatively small town that Ibsen came to in 1843. Grimstad, with its some 800 residents (1845) distributed among 149 households, was located between Arendal and Kristiansand.
Ibsenīs best friends in Grimstad were named Christopher Due and Ole Schulerud.
When Ibsen lived in Grimstad he began writing both poems and other small pieces. But that which is of the greatest significance is certainly his first play, Catilina.
